Lead multisite trials with confidence.

About the Multisite Trial Coordinating Center (MTCC)

The Multisite Trial Coordinating Center (MTCC) was established to address the growing complexity of multisite clinical research and to strengthen Ohio State’s ability to design, launch and manage investigator-initiated trials across institutions. As clinical trials have expanded in scope, requiring more participants, assessments, regulatory oversight and coordination across sites, there is an increasing need for centralized infrastructure that supports scientific rigor, operational efficiency and compliance.

Housed within and closely aligned with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the MTCC was conceived as a centralized resource to bring clarity, coordination and consistency to multisite trial execution. Rather than investigators having to navigate a fragmented research landscape, the MTCC is designed to integrate and extend services across the university and medical center, supporting trials from early proposal development through close-out and reporting.

From Concept to Implementation

The MTCC concept was developed in 2024 in response to institutional needs identified by research leaders and investigators. In early 2025, a proposal was developed with key stakeholders across Ohio State, and later that year the MTCC was approved by the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center as a strategic initiative aligned with Impact 2035. Financial support for the MTCC began in August 2025, marking the start of its stand-up phase. In January 2026, the MTCC reached a major milestone with the activation of its first site in a multisite clinical trial.

Mission and Scope

The mission of the MTCC is to provide end-to-end support for multisite clinical trials in a manner that is scientifically rigorous, operationally efficient, and compliant. The center supports investigators across the full study lifecycle, including proposal and protocol development, project management, trial operations, regulatory oversight, data coordination, safety monitoring and analysis.

The MTCC is organized to function as a centralized coordinating hub, working in close partnership with CTSI, the Center for Biostatistics, and other key research organizations across Ohio State. This collaborative model allows the MTCC to enhance (not duplicate) existing services, while providing the scale and coordination required for complex, multi-institutional studies.

Looking Ahead

The MTCC is positioned to scale as an institutional resource, expanding opportunities for junior investigators and supporting large trial networks and data coordinating centers across the nation in clinical and translational research.

The MTCC represents a strategic investment in the future of multisite research by supporting investigators, accelerating innovation and advancing high-impact clinical trials that extend beyond a single institution.
